Core Curriculum

First things first .... What does it mean to be progressive?

We need to have good understanding of Progressivism before we can delve into my topic.

In your groups, use your lecture notes to create a definition. Use 10 words or less and make a complete sentence.

Compare your definition with the group beside you. Next, we will arrive at a class definition.

I like the Progressive Era. It's pretty cool. I think I want to research it for my topic. What are your thoughts on that? What should I do next?

(Hint: I had two, semester-long history courses on the Progressive Era for my undergraduate degree alone!)

Let's narrow down the topic. Here are the sub-topics your Triad M Seminar Professor have decided to research for you today:

It was pretty hard for me to narrow down this topic. I went back and forth until last night, when I asked my daughter at dinner which topic she thought was more interesting. So, you have my permission to blame HER if this reaches a pinnacle of nerd-dome you NEVER intended to reach!

Here we go: This topic interests me because I am currently researching why we teach social responsibility in the core curriculum for my Philosophy of Education class and how we teach social responsibility in the core curriculum for two of my other doctoral classes. How is the notion of teaching social responsibility progressive? :D

Where to begin my research?

First, I need to consider key words that can help with my search. What key words could I use? Also, what time period could I use? (Perhaps our definition from earlier can help?)

When we were in the library on Monday, I found some sources I could use in the American Decades Primary Sources collection:

Let's go to the handy-dandy Triad M Library Guide to begin searching.

Can I use any of these sources? What are your thoughts? What should I do next?
